A Move and Migration for Security-Sensitive Financial Services Firm


2020 was the year of disruption for most businesses. For those in the financial services industry, technological change was crucial to being able to cope, or even embrace, the disruption caused by Covid-19.

Better-IT helped client T Bailey Asset Management Limited enable their teams to work within a new flexible working model whilst build a platform for future growth.


The Story

T. Bailey Asset Management Limited, in Nottingham, is a leading provider of outcome-based investment solutions for families, individuals and intermediaries. Their focus is on wealth preservation, for the benefit of current and future generations. Initially, their IT systems were shared with sister company T. Bailey Fund Services but due to regulatory changes, it was essential that a clear division of technology and data was enacted.

The company had three clear objectives:

1. Be compliant with the regulatory changes by separating its servers and Microsoft 365 licence from its sister company.

2. Optimise their platform to be more efficient and ensure their team was capable of remotely accessing their security-sensitive environment.

3. Ensure they had flexibility around when they would occupy their new office location and access their on-site servers and solutions.


Rather than simply separate the existing managed servers, they used the required work as an opportunity to build a platform for growth.

Better-IT started by separating the two businesses from their Microsoft 365 tenancy and moving T. Bailey Asset Management to their own IT Infrastructure.

Cloud Working: By getting the client set up on the full Microsoft 365 platform, we completely modernised the business and realigned the company’s processes to work within the Microsoft Modern Workplace.

Device Management: We installed Windows AutoPilot to remotely manage their devices from initial setup to a secure end of life, and Intune to cloud-manage both their organisation-owned and personal devices like smart phones and tablets.

Security: A robust multi-layered security stack was implemented to protect both Microsoft 365 and end-point devices. We implemented data labelling from the Microsoft Information Protection solution, which lets the client classify and protect their organisation’s data, while making sure that user productivity and their ability to collaborate isn’t hindered.

Training: T. Bailey Asset Management staff participated in Advanced Microsoft Teams training to help them understand Microsoft Modern Workplace, and how to use the tools to work securely from any device and any location. And as security is so important to this financial services client, all staff were required to participate in security awareness training.

Lastly, we planned and facilitated their physical move to new premises and optimised their IT capabilities within the new office space.



Enabled by a change program involving both business and IT, T. Bailey has found new efficiencies in how they operate and is primed for future growth. The results of the work accomplished with Better-IT have exceeded the client’s expectations because of the experienced, high-quality support and guidance they received.

The business smoothly migrated to new platforms with no downtime, in a manner that was simple and easy for all end users. Their new Modern Workplace has allowed the client to optimise their business to work from anywhere on any device, whilst maintaining security essentials needed by the financial services firm. They also now have compliance policies to ensure both work and personal devices meet a minimum level of security to access their network and Microsoft 365.

Furthermore, they now boast a technology-led office with a resilient Internet connectivity, fast managed Wifi, hot desk facilities for employees to just turn up and plug in, and a cutting-edge Teams Room Solution.
