Cyber Essentials Certification
Cyber Essentials is a Government-backed cyber security framework designed to protect your organisation, whatever its size, against a whole range of the most common cyber attacks, including:
- Phishing attacks
- Malware
- Ransomware
- Password guessing
- Network attacks
By getting Cyber Essentials certified, you’ll develop a clear picture of your business’s cyber security level, what to do in the case of a cyber incident, and how to implement mitigations.
Reassure Clients and Partners That You’re Cyber Secure
The Cyber Essentials certification will help your business
- Be protected from cyber-threats
- Demonstrate high-quality security controls to stakeholders and clients
- Become eligible to pitch for more contracts (including Government contracts)
It’s a powerful way to win the trust of clients and partners by demonstrating that you’ve taken essential steps to secure your organisation against cyber risks.
Cyber Essentials is a moving standard. IASME and the National Cyber Security Centre review the standards every year in January. Because we are assessors, we know what is coming next year and can incorporate that knowledge into your business IT planning.

How can we help with your Cyber Essentials Certification?
At Better IT, our technical advisors are experts in cyber security for businesses and are IASME-Certified Cyber Essentials Assessors.
We can assess your business’ cyber security protocols, provide a gap analysis of where you need to get, provide the guidance you need to navigate Cyber Essentials certification process, and perform an on-site technical verification.
This is your path to proving that you have cyber security measures in place.
What is the Cyber Essentials certification process?
The Cyber Essentials certification process involves assessing your businesses in 5 technical control areas that research has shown are the most common weaknesses exploited by cyber breaches. These are:
- Access Control
- Secure Configuration
- Software Updates
- Malware Protection
- Firewalls and Routers
As part of our Cyber Essentials Certification package, we do everything for you to make it as easy as possible for you to pass and remain at a secure standard throughout the year.
We’ll help you resolve any issues and once we are confident that your cyber security measures are satisfactory in these areas, you will simply need to complete the self-assessment questionnaire and submit your application.
If you are completing the Cyber Essentials PLUS certification, we will complete an on-site technical verification before your certificate is granted.
If you fail the Cyber Essentials certification, you will only have a short time (3-15 days) to fix the issues and re-submit your application. While you do not need to work with a specialist to complete the self assessment certification, you can identify and fix any cyber security issues before submitting your application by working with one.
Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials PLUS?
Both Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials PLUS assess the same technical controls across your business to ensure you have adequate defences against the most common cyber attacks.
Cyber Essentials is a simple self-assessment while the Cyber Essentials PLUS requires on-site technical testing and verification from a partner like Better IT.
Cyber Essentials PLUS is a higher level of certification and often the minimum requirement for bidding on high-value contracts.
